THE LINER NOTES

 

Released on Liz and Casey Anderson’s indy label, Showboat Records, in January of 2010, ‘Cowgirl II’ was the anticipated follow-up to Lynn’s award-winning ‘Cowgirl’ LP from 2008.

 

A continuation on the theme of her love of the enduring legend of the American West, the nine tracks on this little-known collection were selected by Lynn herself, and are a musical attestation to how well the Western genre fit her. Mandolins, fiddles, gut-string guitars and trumpets conjure up and channel Marty Robbins and Cindy Walker’s earliest works, eclipsed here by Lynn’s effortless, natural phrasing and obvious love of what she’s doing.

 

From ‘Ride, Ride, Ride’ a stripped-down remake of one of Lynn’s first releases, to ‘Turn The Herd’, featuring legendary character actor Barry Corbin, to ‘Bandita’ and ‘Virginia City’-- to listen to ‘Cowgirl II’ is to experience a musical movie; each song a story—a scene—that carries you to the next; Lynn branding each with a storyteller’s flair and her unmistakable voice, capturing the spirit of the West of her memories in every note.
